Smith stars for Lions at XC regional meet
Robert Smith ran the best race of his career last Saturday at Mt. Dora Bible School to lead Foundation Academy in the Class 1A Region 2 cross country championship. His time of 17:47 was good enough for a fourth-place finish and a berth in the state championship meet this Saturday.
Smith ran a well-planned race and went out in the lead pack. After mile one, he was in seventh place and within striking distance of the lead pack. He moved up to fifth place at the two-mile mark of the race and immediately made a move up to the lead pack. With less than a mile to go in the race, he took the lead for the first time. Smith was unable to hold on, but it was a valiant effort, and he became the first athlete in school history to advance to the state-championship level. The state championship race will be held at Little Everglades Ranch in Dade City Florida at 8:20 a.m.

Soccer rejoins the line-up of sports offered at Foundation Academy this winter. The school had temporarily abandoned the sport when it added varsity football four years ago and had to make the switch from fall to winter soccer. Foundation will offer a boys varsity soccer program this coming season and will play home games at its south campus.
The varsity football season came to end last week with a loss to Carrollwood Day School out of Tampa. The team said farewell to several seniors, including three who had record-breaking seasons for the team. Kenny Strong (1,456 yards rushing, 26 total touchdowns), Wes Murray (816 yards rushing, 18 total touchdowns) and Zach Raymond (65 tackles, 10 sacks) all have been cornerstones in the program and leave holding school records.
